PRC Westerns were notoriously slipshod affairs that suffered from hurried acting and murky photography. All of which is true of Overland Riders as well. But like most of the "Billy the Kid" and "Billy Carson" oaters, the little film has a certain lumbering charm that is very hard to resist. With PRC at least you know what you get -- leading ladies with little or no acting experience, a certain amount of technical gaffes, boss heavies who can only afford a couple of henchmen -- and the only surprise here is the casting of veteran blackguards Charles "Slim" Whitaker and Bud Osborne in sympathetic roles for a change.
