Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
Veteran Egyptian actress Faten Hamama (a former wife of Omar Sharif) arranged for this feminist film to be made and also played the starring role. Following an arranged marriage to a diplomat, a new wife finds her womanizing husband's company intolerable. She seeks to divorce him without ruining his reputation and her honor, and must fight the stubborn irrationality of civil law in this regard. At the time of its release in 1974, this controversial comedy/drama was surprisingly well-received in some of the more secular Arabic-speaking countries.
