Also-ran cowboy star Roy Stewart, at one time seen as a rival to William S. Hart, was given the full Hart treatment in this average silent western produced by Triangle. The director, Clifford Smith, had been Hart's co-director on The Taking of Luke McVane, and screenwriter Lambert Hillyer became Hart's chief collaborator on films such as The Narrow Trail (1917) and The Toll Gate (1920). Stewart never came close to duplicating Hart's success, however, although unlike Hart's, his career lasted well into the sound era. One-Shot Ross was what you'd expect: a notorious gunfighter (Stewart) hangs up his guns after falling for a rancher's daughter but returns to his old ways one more time when the girl's ranch is threatened by a gang of outlaws.
