Synopsis by Zach Atreiu Pinpin
One Million American Dreams is a documentary by Brendan Byrne investigating the dark past of Hart Island. This island spans 101-acres and is the final resting place for over one million unclaimed dead. With no one to put them to rest, the city puts inmates from Rikers Island to work with very little pay to put these forgotten souls to rest. This documentary also tells the story of people hoping to achieve the so-called American dream amidst everyday tragedies like this.
