Synopsis by Nathan Southern

Indonesian director Rudi Soedjarwo's crime drama Nine Dragons extends itself equally to action-hungry viewers and those craving depth, by juxtaposing sensitive themes and multidimensional characters with gritty gangland violence. The premise concerns three male buddies cutting their chops as hit men in the Jakarta slums: Don (Donny Alamsyah) , Lenny (Fauzi Baadilla) and pack leader Marwan (Lukman Sardi), whose home life is deeply depressing thanks to his loveless marriage with laconic, wheelchair-bound wife Ajeng (Ajeng Sardi) . Don informs an understanding Marwan that he wants out of the business, as he's afraid of setting a negative precedent for his younger brother Adi (Marcel Anthony). But before this can occur, Don is wiped out in a botched job, which sends Marwan careening into a pit of depression. Meanwhile, everything that Lenny has learned to rely on as stable and dependable crumbles beneath him. Monty Tiwa authored the original script; Marcel Anthony and Dorman Borisman co-star.
