Although assembled by the identical crew that had filmed John Wayne's previous Monogram/Lone Star Westerns, The New Frontier does benefit from a somewhat larger budget courtesy of Republic's Herbert Yates. That said, the Monogram town set remains the same and Wayne is still not "The Duke" of later super-stardom but a fairly competent young player still finding his way in Hollywood. Yakima Canutt's stunt work is well in evidence as usual, however, and the film offers a meaty role to lantern-jawed Warner Richmond, who more often than not was reduced to playing unnamed henchmen.
