On May 21, 1991, the assassination of 7th Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi rocked the world. Filmmaker Major Ravi's (Keerthichakra) Malayan-language political thriller Mission 90 Days dramatizes the much-publicized police manhunt that ensued. Mammooty stars as Major Sivaraman, a National Security Guard officer assigned to hone in on the gunman responsible for bringing down Prime Minister Gandhi; the film reveals each step of the investigation that led Sivaraman through a web of numerous suspects and dead-end leads to the actual culprit, Thenmuli Rajaratnam. Ravi, however, deliberately and carefully avoids all mention or discussion of socio-political issues.
