Review by Craig Butler

Mickey's Christmas Carol may be one of the shortest adaptations of the Dickens classic around, but that actually works in its favor. Too many screen adaptations of this beloved tale pad it out to achieve feature length, but Mickey's trim 25 minutes keeps the familiar story to its bare essentials and is all the more powerful for that. The Disney characters are well chosen for their respective roles, with Goofy a surprisingly good choice for Marley, Mickey the obvious Cratchit, and Scrooge McDuck, of course, the only possible option for the despicable old miser. What makes Mickey's special, of course, is the wonderful animation. The studio lavished as much care upon half hour as it would have on a full-length piece, and the artwork is simply stunning and entirely effective. The voice work is also exceptional, with Alan Young a perfect Scrooge, Hal Smith a great Goofy/Marley, and Clarence Nash turning in his typically definitive Donald Duck/Nephew. Mickey's is one seasonal favorite that deserves to be seen year round.
