Synopsis by Dan Pavlides
Although the story is taken from a 17th-century story by Voltaire, this romantic drama serves as a commentary about France in the 1960s. An envoy is sent to Earth from another planet to determine if the planet is worth saving. He is taken to a lavish party for a famous actress, but it is a poor old woman living in squalor who eventually convinces him that the world should not be destroyed. A speech concerning the philosophical importance of freedom is presented in the final part of the film.
