The body hurled from the cliff belongs to the Indian runner Zambleau (Steve Clemente), who lands safely in the lake below. On his way back to the tribe, however, the Indian loses the treasure map to Powder Solvang (Paul Hurst), who quickly hightails it to the desert. Despite resistance from the La Conche Indians, who have been forewarned by Zambleau's smoke signals, Solvang manages to shoot his way into the cave and steal the treasure. Meanwhile, back in the desert, Lightning (Jack Hoxie) and Kate (Ann Little) pause at a waterhole, blithely unaware that Solvang has removed a sign warning of poison.
