Synopsis by Jason Buchanan

The monumental events that shook the West German province of Luedenscheid in 1968 are portrayed in an intimate and affectionate light in this documentary from author Richard David Precht and filmmaker André Schaefer. Precht was born during a time of great political turmoil. As his family creates a self-contained socialist universe in the midst of a capitalistic country, the young boy's father reads Marx and Engels. Young Precht assumes that the bearded authors of his father's beloved books are the renowned animal lover Brehm, and as a result he begins viewing the German Democratic Republic as an ethereal zoo protected by an enormous wall. Coca Cola and Star Trek are both outlawed in Prech's home, though due to the fact that Astrix comics are French, they are considered subversive and thus permitted. Two of Precht's siblings hailed from Vietnam, and all of the children were taught the difference between right and wrong by Mother Precht. Each of these factors helped to shape young Precht's unique world view, and in this documentary, viewers are invited to see the world from his unique perspective.
