Synopsis by Alice Day
When the 7,000 miles of Canadian transcontinental railways were in danger of being eliminated, veteran war reporter Murray Sayles elected to travel the entire distance. The route covered ten provinces, five time zones, and various terrain, including mountains, swamps, and frozen desert. Sayles begins his trip in Nova Scotia and ends in Vancouver, British Columbia. Along the way, he sees remarkably scenic vistas and meets a large variety of personalities, from railroad people to fishermen to residents of Indian settlements and prairie cowboys.
