Synopsis by Clarke Fountain

This documentary examines the lives of prostitutes in socialist Hungary. Documentaries of prostitution had been made elsewhere before, but this is a rare honest look at the phenomena in Communist Eastern Europe. Perhaps because of the depressed state of the Hungarian economy, the girls boast about how much money they make and seem generally pleased with their lot. However, when the film attempts to show them with their clients, they quickly grow uncomfortable, and we're treated to a fair amount of inappropriate giggling.
