Synopsis by Nathan Southern
While the associations between theologican Johannes Calvin (1509-64) and contemporary Christianity are immediate and obvious; this documentary argues that he wasn't simply the father of a massive religious faith but one of the progenitors of a modernist paradigm. He was a sculptor of current modes of thought regarding individuality and work ethics, and thus one indispensible to contemporary life, despite the tendency to bury Calvin beneath stereotypes as a cold-blooded "spoil-sport." This program etches out a biographical profile of Calvin and asks key questions about the philosophies and modes of thought that he originated.
