Synopsis by Janiss Garza

This drama was based on the stage play by George Broadhurst. On-stage, the lead roles were taken by Pauline Frederick and John Miltern; Miltern reprises his role here and the title character is played by Fannie Ward (who, at 45, was undoubtedly not as innocent as her role). A girl called Innocent has been sequestered behind the high walls of a Chinese garden for her whole life. When her father, Peter McCormick (Frederick Perry), dies, he entrusts John Wyndham (Miltern) with Innocent's care. Although he is much older than she is (actually, Miltern was only three years Ward's senior), the two of them become great pals. Wyndham takes Innocent to Paris, but then he falls back into his old gambling habit. Louis Doucet (Armand Karlitz), who runs the gambling house, has designs on Innocent and entices her into running off with him. Wyndham finds them at the carnival in Nice, and believing that Doucet has compromised Innocent, shoots him. But Innocent had not yet fallen prey to Doucet and she goes in search of Wyndham. She finds him back in the walled Chinese garden, and they are united.
