Review by Craig Butler

Poor Joan Crawford in I Live My Life. There she is, a pampered heiress who hasn't a care in the world but is bored, bored, bored! Nothing in her glittery life really excites her, so what in the world is she to do but fall for common man Brian Aherne, an archaeologist who clearly doesn't fit in with her society set. Write the rest of the picture yourself -- but you won't be able to add the witty banter than Joseph L. Mankiewicz manages to sneak in whenever given half a chance. It's a good thing Mankiewicz is able to get some zingers in, because Live needs all the help it can get in the screenplay department. Fortunately, Crawford is in very good form here, offering a lively but not scenery-chewing performance that is hard top resist, and Aherne does pretty well keeping up with her. Crawford also benefits from an array of divine Adrian fashions, which she shows off as no one else quite can. Frank Morgan, Aline MacMahon, Eric Blore and Arthur Treacher provide some valuable comic support, and W.S. Van Dyke's fast-paced, if not especially subtle, direction keeps things moving at a decent clip.
