Synopsis by Nathan Southern

As originally produced for the BBC (and entitled Hail, Caesar in some markets), the documentary series I, Caesar provides a sequential overview of the rise and fall of the Roman Empire. This sweeping program covers six centuries and spans the rule of six major Roman leaders - Julius Caesar (49 B.C.-44 B.C.), Augustus (27 B.C. - 19 A.D.), Nero (54 - 68 A.D.), Hadrian (117 - 138 A.D.), Constantine (306 - 312 A.D.) and Justinian (527 -565 A.D.); each episode spans one specific dynasty, and as the above dates indicate, the program omits countless rulers who fell in-between the said names, such as Caligula, Tiberius, Claudius and Vitellius. Each episode combines historical reenactments, location footage, informed narration and glimpses of key period artifacts to bring the events to dramatic life.
