Synopsis by Nathan Southern

It will scarcely surprise students of civil rights, or even those aware of basic racial prejudice, to learn that despite centuries of African American military service the United States long resisted acknowledging the vital contributions of black men to the U.S. Armed Forces. This circumstance grew particularly outrageous in World War II, where despite 432 Congressional Medals of Honor awarded, not one went to an African American. As narrated by Oscar-nominated actor Samuel L. Jackson (Do The Right Thing), this program filters the said issues through the heartbreaking stories of seven African American men who unequivocally deserved to each receive the Medal of Honor - but only attained that status at the hands of President Bill Clinton in 1997, after decades of deferment by the U.S. government.
