Review by Hans J. Wollstein

Despite its poverty row origins (or maybe because of them) and somewhat innocent take on Nazi atrocities, Hitler -- Beast of Berlin stands head and shoulders above later likeminded efforts from the major studios. The film not only defied the production code, which still carried an isolationist attitude, it also served to introduce Alan Ladd to moviegoers and Ladd fully lives up to his billing. In fact, the general acting in Hitler -- Beast of Berlin remains remarkably solid for a poverty row product but, then again, considering the many refugees from Hitler's terror among the cast members, acting verisimilitude should perhaps not come as a total surprise.
