Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka
Social injustice is a common theme in dramas in which the problems of a village mentality are highlighted by savvy filmmakers -- like Turkish director Ali Ozgenturk. Here he tells the story of Hazal, a young woman who is widowed soon after she marries. By tradition she is controlled by her former in-laws and has neither independence nor her own family to come to her aid. As a result, the in-laws expect her to marry her dead husband's twelve-year-old brother. In the meantime, a young man has fallen in love with her and she reciprocates his feelings. He is also working on a road that would make contact with the world outside the village a lot easier. Soon the symbolism of the road and the young couple who tradition could never allow to marry are intertwined.
