In the year 1967 young Hanna (Nike Seitz) and her mother Catherine (Franziska Weisz) lived a quiet and modest life as Catholics in the small Upper Austrian town of Wels. Believing something is out of the ordinary, she soon finds out the secret of their Jewish identity from her blind and feisty grandmother, awakening the "sleeping dogs" of the past. Johanna does not want to hide their secret like her mother, who is traumatized by the war, and decides this is something they should be proud of!
