Synopsis by Mark Deming

A middle-aged man juggles relationships as he tries to sort out the chaos of his life in this dark comedy-drama from Slovakia. Viktor (Jan Kroner) is a business executive in his early forties who is wondering what became of his youth. While Viktor is married to Karla (Klara Trojanova Pollertova), who still loves him and wants to have a child, he's started chasing other women, and is having on-and-off affairs with Lucia (Slavka Halcakova), one of his associates at work, and Madonna (Kristina Turjanova), a barmaid at his favorite watering hole. As if three women isn't enough, Viktor falls in love with Mia (Tana Pauhofova), an art student half his age he meets while rescuing her from drowning while she was taking part in a photography project. Viktor is deeply infatuated with Mia, but he discovers she already has a boyfriend, Konzi (Marek Geisberg); making matters even more awkward, he discovers Mia's parents (Matej Landl and Diana Morova) are old friends he first met in college. Polcas Rozpadu (aka Half Life) was the first theatrical feature from director Vlado Fischer.
