Synopsis by Jason Buchanan

Examine the roots of success in the world of hip-hop as Grind travels the country to speak with some of the most successful rappers in the business to show just what it takes to make the big time. Interviews with platinum-selling recording artists Juvenile, Mike Jones, Juelz Santana, and Pretty Ricky offer their own definitions on what it means to be successful in the ultra-competitive music industry, with additional conversations featuring Pharrell and Kanye West revealing just how their success as producers helped to propel their careers behind the microphone. Trick Daddy and Pitbull producer Jim Jonsin reminisces about his early days in the business while pondering just what it takes to turn out a hit, and promoters Tony Neal, Phil Gates, and Pee Wee Kirkland prove that getting the word out about a talented rapper is more difficult than some may think.
