Review by Hans J. Wollstein

The unusual and rather gimmicky ending notwithstanding, Green Eyes is a rather tedious whodunit whose slow plot offers an audience plenty of time to marvel at the extravagant sets, far beyond, one would think, what a minor company like Chesterfield could afford. In reality, the palatial surroundings came courtesy of Universal, where the poverty row studio filmed almost all their thrillers until 1935 when the company switched to the former home of Pathé. Meanwhile, everything in Green Eyes happens exactly as you would expect and only the glowing orbs of the title -- in reality merely a mask worn by Claude Gillingwater -- are the least bit out of the ordinary.
