Kosaku Yamashita directed this 17th installment in the long-running crime series which began with Gokudo (1968). Powerful Yakuza gangster Shimamura (Tomisaburo Wakayama), jailed following the bloody battle with a Chinese Triad chronicled in Gokudo Kamagasaki Ni Kaeru (1970), is freed by the head of the wealthy Ryuzo family. Offered a partnership, Shimamura comes one step closer to his ultimate goal of completely controlling crime in Osaka. Nijiko Kiyokawa returns as the gangster's wife, Mineko. Shigehiro Ozawa's Gokudo Makari Touru (1972) was next in the series.
