Review by Jeremy Wheeler

Girls Nite Out might be one of the most forgettable of the early '80s slashers, though it certainly is the only one where the killer dresses as a mascot bear! That fact alone should make it worthwhile to most genre enthusiasts, even if they end up regretting it once they settle down for a viewing. Filled with sophomoric college shenanigans, this thriller follows a group of bland loser sorority chicks as they deal with their clueless partying boyfriends who very obviously are in denial about their feelings for each other (this is played in varying degrees of embarrassing absurdity). Put them in the mix with some annoying over-acting goons and you have the forgettable cast of characters that get sliced up by the furry maniac. In the midst of things, there's a half-dosed mystery that has a bit of a payoff at the end, which is memorable in an in-your-face weirdness sort of way. Hal Holbrook spends most of his time mugging around piecing together the story's clues, though someone should have pieced together the script before he signed onto this blasé mess.
