Review by Buzz McClain

Wait! Hold on! This is not your everyday low-budget supernatural slasher epic. For one thing, it's British (a Scottish production), so everything anyone says is going to sound smart in the first place. Second, it's a damned good script enacted by a superb ensemble cast that has the run of a real abandoned rig (talk about authentic sets). And lastly, it's got an excellent synthesized score that heightens the eerie mood of the ponderously huge rig and underscores the scares. And lastly, the ending is so audacious that you find yourself applauding the final image even if you are watching alone -- and you shouldn't watch alone, because this is one jitter-inducing horror show. Opportunities at clichés abound, but director Julian Kean cunningly sets them up and then hops right around them, much to your great relief. Ghost Rig easily holds its own against contemporaries The Ring and 28 Days Later. This is one of those "lost in the marketplace" films that makes you grateful you own a DVD player.
