Synopsis by Carrie Downes
Oscar nominee Dorothy Fadiman chronicles the movement that culminated in the historic case of Roe v. Wade in this Emmy Award-winning documentary, produced in association with KTEH-TV. Fadiman uses a combination of archival footage and firsthand interviews with the grassroots activists and lobbyists who fought for the right for safe abortion. The documentary is punctuated with women's poignant experiences with self-induced and botched abortion procedures prior to Roe v. Wade, when abortion was not only unsafe, but also considered shameful and criminal. This program is part of the series From the Back-Alleys to the Supreme Court and Beyond.
