Inspired by the 2004 football drama of the same name - which was in turn inspired by H.G. Bissinger's popular non-fiction tome - the NBC series Friday Night Lights follows a Texas high school football team as they strive to make the championships under the guidance of an inexperienced but dedicated first-year coach. The Dillon Panthers may just have what it takes to win the state championships, and the pressure put on newly arrived Coach Eric Taylor (Kyle Chandler) by the football frenzied community makes it readily apparent that they expect nothing less. Of course prized quarterback Jason Street (Scott Porter) and nimble running back "Smash" Williams (Gaius Charles) seem poised for greatness, and even the local book club can't stop speculating on the team's future victories. As the season wears on, the players will all come to learn their strengths and weaknesses as the community hangs on their every move.
