Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Forty-Nine Days (Russian title: 49 Dney) is an inspirational WW II yarn based on fact. A Soviet sergeant and three privates are cast adrift in the Pacific after their vessel is destroyed in a storm. For 49 days, the quartet of survivors float aimlessly off the coast of Siberia. The fact that the four men are rescued by a group of U.S. navy pilots is not downpedalled: unlike many American films of the 1960s, Russian films tended not to be judgmental about their country's Cold War "enemy." Enhancing the entertainment value of 49 Days is the special-effects work by G. Ayzenberg and F. Krasny.
