Synopsis by Hal Erickson

The British Fires of Innocence was based on A Little Word Apart, a novel by George Stevenson. With the unctuousness of a Sunday sermon, the film contrasts the lifestyles of a vicar with a nobleman. The aristocrat remains above suspicion no matter what his behavior, while every move the poor vicar makes is misinterpreted by the local bluenoses. The two worlds come closer together when the vicar's daughter (Joan Morgan) falls in love with the wealthy man's son. Leading lady Morgan, daughter of Fires of Innocence writer/director Sidney Morgan, later resurfaced as one of the interviewees for the ambitious 1995 British TV miniseries The European Cinema.
