Review by Jeremy Wheeler

Firehouse should be funny -- it's a sex comedy made in 1987 about firewomen in the vein of Police Academy! Okay, so that doesn't exactly scream quality, but what went wrong? Well, there are hilarious sex comedies, gleefully raunchy B-grade shlockers (see The First Turn-On!), and then there's the garbage like this one. Sure, there's plenty of gratuitous nudity (a must of most cheap '80s funny flicks) and it's plenty wacky, but it's like they left out the key ingredient in the script -- namely, humor. First off, there's a lot of mugging going on in Firehouse and it's not the kind that Clint Eastwood would come in and clean up (actually, that'd make the flick about 100 times better!). With their pencil-thin moustache of a script, it seems the only crutch the filmmakers had for laughs was hiring standup comedy rejects who could ham it up to the point of bland absurdity. With no outrageous '80s minor characters to spice things up, you're confined to following three bimbos as they move from one terrible gag to the next. If anything, the nudity at least spices things up (especially in the few choice dream segments), but otherwise this flick is a late-night cable clunker that's so fall-flat unfunny, it's annoying.
