Veteran fight coordinator Art Camacho (Last Man Standing) directs this barely passable action thriller with a velvety light touch, which means he lets his "big star," the self-indulgent Richard Grieco, get away with any little quirk that comes to his over-enthused mind. The dangling cigarette during a furious shootout sequence shows how little the director was distracted by his star's improvisation. If the effect was to make a statement about Randall's character, it succeeded: The man is addicted to nicotine like all get out. It doesn't help that little of the plotting is more imaginative than the dreary B-movie title. A few nicely choreographed shoot 'em ups take the mind off the watery mystery aspects, but Grieco's down-on-his-heels loser of a character is too petulant to root for. In fact, even Martin Kove's strong-jawed bad guy cop inspires less antipathy.
