Synopsis by Mark Deming

A young man's desperate struggle to do the right thing for his father has unfortunate consequences in this independent drama from director Pan Jianlin. Fugui (Zhou Cheng) is a deliveryman who works hard but makes little money for his efforts. Fugui barely earns enough to take care of himself, and his budget is stretched past the breaking point when his elderly father becomes severely ill and loses his home. Fugui moves his dad into his small and shabby flat, and tries to find a way to pay for the medication that treats but will not cure father's condition. Fugui imagines he's found a solution to his money problems when he decides to sell one of his kidneys to a black-market organ broker who deals his wares to wealthy clients in Japan. However, the surgery doesn't go well for Fugui; by the time he recovers his father has died, and now the young man has to negotiate a difficult legal system to get a proper death certificate. Liu Mang De Sheng Yan (aka Feast of Villains) was an official selection at the 2009 BFI London Film Festival.
