Warner Bros. screenwriters Lillie Hayward, Jean Negulesco, and Jay Brennan may have had Gloria Swanson in mind when they crafted this musical-comedy about an American actress who grabs herself a titled husband, but Expensive Husbands' Laurine Lynne (Beverly Roberts) does Swanson one better by catching a prince rather than a mere marquis. Dashing Patric Knowles, a sort of poor man's Errol Flynn, plays the latter complete with a central-European accent that once in a while gives way to a Yorkshire brogue. It is all very silly and only occasionally amusing.
