Synopsis by Sean Hurley

From the BBC and Time Life, the Europe the Mighty Continent series explores the immense changes that have taken place on the European continent over the last century. This rich history is given voice by Peter Ustinov and historian John Terrine. This program explores Europe in the wake of WWII. It chronicles the 1956 crackdowns by Soviet troops in Poland and Hungary as Western Europe looked the other way, preferring to focus on its own stunning economic recovery. The Suez crisis is also explored as one of the last battles in the fight to end Western European imperialism.
