The cinematic realization of Bach's St. John's Passion takes the path of Jesus' suffering and culminates in interrogation and condemnation by Pontius Pilate. This unique melange of musical, theater and dance follows chapters 18 and 19 of the Gospel of John and is permeated with church members and two verses from the Gospel of Matthew. The acclaimed recording of Bach's conductor Karl Richter with the Munich Bach Choir and Bachorchester from the year 1964 provided the basis.
