Ernie & Joe follows two police officers from the San Antonio Police Department in the Mental Health Unit. After its founding in 2008, the SAPD has made huge efforts to protect and handle people with mental disabilities. The documentary provides an inside look into their methods on how to build connections, diffuse situations, and get people the proper help. Aside from 911 calls regarding criminal activity, they also respond to possible suicides and other matters involving self-harm. Directed by Jenifer McShane.
