This Jennifer Lopez vehicle finds British director Michael Apted continuing to subsidize his career as an acclaimed documentarian (see 42 Up) with another piece of slick Hollywood product. Or, in this case, not so slick. A revenge fantasy dressed up in post-feminist drag, Enough spends its first 75 minutes or so setting up Lopez's character as a wronged wife, not so much to explore the serious issues of adultery and domestic abuse, but to give her a pretext for studying some tae-bo and kicking some butt. It's only here, in the third act, when protagonist Slim slides some kung-fu hand-wraps over her bling-bling rings and breaks into her estranged husband's eerily Ikea-appointed temple of male purity that the film finally becomes the piece of high-grade trash its trailer promised. While awaiting this genuine roller-coaster of a climax, the audience must make do with low-grade camp, whether it's Juliette Lewis playing to type as a slutty, you-go-girl waitress or Noah Wyle subverting his E.R.-derived nice-guy image in a secondary role. Bill Campbell is merely adequate as the object of J. Lo's vengeance; perhaps if the script portrayed him as a truly frightening abuser rather than as a rich cipher, his role -- and the film -- would have more genuine emotional weight. Instead, it's a schematic Hollywood concept fleshed out just enough to provide a half-hour of adrenalized catharsis at the end.
