Although he was soon to self-destruct offscreen, some of Ken Maynard's near-legendary onscreen charisma is visible in Dynamite Ranch, especially in the clinches with favorite B-Western (and serial) heroine Ruth Hall. Another positive is the appearance of several former silent screen "names," including that old battle-axe Martha Mattox and the ever despicable Albert J. Smith. Maynard's real-life brother, Kermit Maynard, and the veteran Cliff Lyons perform a couple of good stunts and the overall effect is one of the better early talkie Westerns.
