Sgt. Friday (Jack Webb) and Officer Gannon (Harry Morgan) hit the streets to investigate after panicked mother Marian Stanley (Peggy Webber) reports that her two daughters are missing. Mentioning that her alcoholic ex-husband may be the kidnapper, Friday and Gannon drop in on him only to discover that not only has he reformed, but he's held up at his home with a bad case of the flu. A series of neighbors are interviewed leading to a confrontation with convicted child molester Vernon Hall (Vic Perrin), but it's a mysterious dog that ultimately hold the key to solving the case. Though the dog's owner had recently moved out of the neighborhood, the homesick pup found its way back to the old neighborhood and the girls took a shine to it. When the dog decided to return to its new home, the girls followed it back and fell asleep in the house.
