Synopsis by Mark Deming

In this satiric comedy from Russian filmmaker Yuri Mamin, a successful young businessman who values profit above all finds his life falling apart when he loses his job and his savings. With nowhere to go, the former executive happens upon a battered old house, which is home to a pair of eccentric artists. The young man is at first puzzled by the creative pursuits and anti-materialistic lifestyle of his fellow squatters, but in time he comes to appreciate their ideals and throws in his lot with them. But is the young man simply going through a phase, or has he truly changed his life and his philosophy? Starring Michel Tarabukin, Alexey Dfvotchenko, Katarina Ksenyeva and Anvar Libabov, Ne Dumai Pro Belyh Obezian (aka Don't Think About White Monkeys) was an official selection at the 2008 Moscow International Film Festival, where it was honored as Best Russian Film.
