Synopsis by Nathan Southern
Baritone vocalist Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau (considered one of the greatest of all lieder singers) and concert pianist Hartmut Höll team up for this classical performance film, that finds them interpreting two major compositions by Robert Schumann (1810-1856) at Liederabend Baden-Baden in 1987: Eichendorff-Lieder op. 39 and Kerner-Lieder op. 35. As an added bonus, this package also includes an album of Fischer-Dieskau and Höll interpretations of selected pieces by Schumann (Ballade vom Haideknaben, op. 122, Nr. 1), Franz Liszt (Leonore and Der traurige Mönch) and Viktor Ullmann (Die Weise von Liebe und Tod des Cornets Christoph Rilke).
