Although low-budget, Desert Phantom remains an exciting sagebrush thriller starring one of the best for this sort of thing, former football star Johnny Mack Brown. Unlike many of his contemporaries, Brown had begun his screen career with straight drama and is obviously a fine actor in his own right. Although he later became disturbingly stout, Desert Phantom presents a streamlined Brown at the top of his game.
