Director Margaret Brown presents a documentary about citizens of Africatown in Alabama and the surviving descendants of the Clotilda, the last known ship to illegally transport humans to the United States for the purpose of slavery. For one hundred and fifty years, their legacy was only a legend, passed down through generations. But now, tangible evidence of their history exists as the Clotilda wreckage is discovered. Included is footage from a 1928 interview with the last known survivor of the ship, Cudjo Lewis. All of this combines to help a community finally receive closure and exposure.
