Review by Hans J. Wollstein

George Montgomery makes a good hero in this low-budget oater, but he wears an ordinary cowboy hat and not the coonskin cap the title of the film would suggest. The "cheating" doesn't stop with a misleading title, however. In an effort to economize, producer Edward Small used quite a bit of stock footage from his own 1940 release Kit Carson, which had starred Jon Hall in the title-role. The original film was produced on location at Kayenta, Arizona, and the footage adds much needed production value to Davy Crockett, Indian Scout, an otherwise completely routine effort enlivened only by a good performance from Phillip Reed as the title character's loyal Indian friend.
