Date Plate was the Food Network's equivalent to such non-gastronomic TV fare as The Dating Game and Blind Date. On each episode, a man or woman was allowed to sample dishes cooked up by two different members of the opposite sex. It was thus literally a matter of taste as to which of the two amateur chefs would be asked out on a date. Date Plate premiered April 2, 2003.
