Two close friends struggle with deeper feelings for one another as circumstances drive them apart in this drama from writer and director Victor Avelar. Hugo (Alejandro Belmonte) and Julia (Siouzana Melikian) attend the same high school and have been close friends for years. Both Hugo and Julia are passionate football fans who root for the University of Mexico Pumas, but in many other respects they're very different people. Pretty Julia comes from a loving and supportive family, and has always worked hard to get good grades. Hugo, however, comes from a blue-collar household and has never been encouraged to take his academic responsibilities seriously. Hugo's great dream has always been to play for the University of Mexico team, and he's long focused on his athletic skills over his schoolwork. But Hugo's obsession is driving a wedge between him and Julia, even as they become aware of just how much they mean to one another. The first feature film from director Avelar, Como No Te Voy A Querer (aka How Am I Not Going o Love You?) received its North American premiere at the 2009 Cinequest Film Festival.
