Synopsis by Bhob Stewart

Bruno Bontsolakis directed this French-Belgian coming-of-age drama that expands on characters introduced in Bontsolakis' short film Vacances a Bleriot (1996) which showed long-time friends Nicolas (Alexandre Carriere) and Thierry (Nicolas Ducron) on the brink of compulsory military service. With the same actors returning, Chacun pour Soi follows the unskilled, uneducated duo after their army careers as they postpone the inevitable unemployment with an idyll at a seaside camp. In an adjacent tent are two young single women, Francoise (Florence Masure) and Annie (Dominque Baeyens). Months later, the unemployed Nicolas is living off Francoise's salary checks. When Thierry gets Nicolas involved in a theft, the events take a tragic turn. Shown in the Cinemas in France section at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival.
