Synopsis by Mark Deming

A working class family struggles to hold their lives together in this Belgian drama from writer and director Martijn Maria Smits. Jean (Patrick Descamps) is a middle-aged father whose life has taken a turn for the worse ever since he lost his job. Jean's wife has abandoned the family, and he doesn't have the nerve to tell his children that he's on the brink of financial ruin. Jean's fourteen-year-old son Benjamin (Benjamin Willem) doesn't care about school and spends most of time indulging in petty crime, while his older sister Marie (Julie Anson) is a new mother stuck with a baby she doesn't know how to care for. As things grow more desperate for the family, Benjamin takes a fateful step when he steals a gun he finds in an unlocked car. C'est Deja L'ete ("It's Already Summer" in English) was an official selection at the 2010 Rotterdam International Film Festival.
